Hormone Replacement Therapy Q & A
What is hormone replacement therapy?
Hormone replacement therapy refers to the treatment offered to women to restore hormone balance to relieve the symptoms caused by menopause. Dr. Senchani and her team at Women’s Health Specialists of Central Florida use bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) to optimize hormone balance.
Bioidentical hormones are a more natural form of hormone replacement created from soy or yams and have the same chemical structure as the hormones naturally found in your body.
If you’re like many women, you may have concerns about hormone therapy due to its links to heart disease and certain types of cancer. Dr. Senchani uses BioTE® pellets for your BHRT, which allows her to customize your natural hormone replacement, so you only get the hormones you need at the right levels to get relief from your symptoms with minimal risk.
Am I a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy?
Dr. Senchani and her team determine if you’re a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy when you come in for a consultation. You may want to consider an evaluation if you’re suffering from the common symptoms associated with menopause, including:
- Low sex drive
- Mood changes
- Hot flashes and night sweats
- Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
- Vaginal dryness
- Fatigue
- Difficulty sleeping
The team at Women’s Health Specialists of Central Florida conducts hormone testing to assess your levels before recommending BHRT. If your hormone levels are out of balance, Dr. Senchani uses the results of your testing to create a customized BioTE hormone replacement pellet to meet your specific hormonal needs.
How is a BioTE pellet placed?
Once your BioTE pellet is ready, Dr. Senchani has you come back to the office for placement. She inserts the pellet through a small incision in your upper buttocks. After insertion, which only takes a few minutes, the area is covered with a small bandage.
It may take up to one week for your hormone levels to return to normal and for you to start to feel relief from your symptoms.
Dr. Senchani and her team have you come back to the office periodically to check your symptoms and hormone levels and replace your BioTE pellet as needed.
